Lot 4516
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.22 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 319. CONSTA-NTINVS AVG Laureate, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Constantine I to right. Rev. VICTORIAE LAET PRIN P / STR Two victories standing facing each other and holding shield inscribed VOT / PR over altar decorated with a star. Cf. RIC 227 (for prototype). Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The style of this coin is clearly unofficial, indicating that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. It matches the description of RIC 227 (Treveri), based on a unique coin, which may also in fact be a contemporary imitation.
